“Marinate your calling with your degree.” Rachelle Antoine

In my tiny bedroom where I built a mini office it is where I get all of my work and projects done. It is my escape area to be productive and creative. Right above my desk hangs my diploma from one out of the eight ivy league schools and of course one of the most prestigious universities in the world — Columbia University. I would stare at it and still question its purpose and what the hell am I suppose to do with it. If you are reading this, you are probably thinking that I should have had the answer to this question before I accepted the offer of admission. Unfortunately, Columbia was the only graduate school I applied to and I did not want to stay at home for another year. And, Yes ! it was my dream school ever since I left my place of birth — Haiti. No matter how long I would stare at my hard-earned diploma- It is my calling that seem to always answer my daunting questions and it would whisper to me.

“Rachelle, Marinate Your Degree With Your Calling.”

You would have thought that after attending an ivy league school that I would have had it all figured out. Alas, this isn’t the case at all time for everyone. Especially when the universe tells you that you have not yet fulfilled you true calling. Therefore, it is important not to neglect your calling. As cliche as it sounds, your inner voice is your calling. It is that inside voice that speaks to you everyday — and it will continue to linger until you give birth or go to to your grave with it. Listen to what your inner voice whispers!

To all my college graduates, I respect you all. We have worked hard to get this approval from society and the academic trustees. We have cried, we have gone through the turmoils and deceptions. We have done it all; the essays, the research project, the capstone projects, exams etc... We must be proud of all of these achievements. For it has helped to build endurance, strength, and commitment. But, there is one thing that it never filled — it is that empty feeling inside of you that you have not yet fully tap into. It is that true passion that is within you. You do not go to school to train your passion or your calling. You go to school to adhere to the norms of society and to uphold to the advancement of education. School is a social construct and for years we have adhere to it. It is important to receive that social construct seal but always remember there is more to it.

My Diploma says this:

“ The Trustee of Columbia University in the City of New York to all Persons to whom these presents may come greeting be it known that Rachelle Antoine having completed a course of studies in Social Work and satisfied the requirements for the degree of Master of Science has accordingly been to that degree with all the rights privilege and immunities thereunto appertaining in witness whereof we have caused our corporate seal to be here affixed in the City of New York on the Twenty-Second Day of May in the year two thousand and nineteen.”

Remember you need the academic trustee to validate and approve of your school completion. But only you can validate your “ Your True -Self. The ideas and the thoughts that you have they all came from within you. And it is a matter of accepting your life’s calling and become committed enough to answer that call.

Your true calling is a feeling that is deep inside of you that no university seal can quench that thirst. It is bigger than you. It is like a fire that is waiting to spread its flame. Once you embrace there is a level of radiance to it. Continue to dig deeper inside of you !
